The Tasmanian Futures League team has returned from Canberra after a successful start to 2012, recording a 4 wicket win against the ACT Comets.

The Second XI side was full of first class experience with several PKF Tasmanian Tigers Sheffield Shield players heading to the nation's capital to get their eye in before the next round of Bupa Sheffield Shield matches gets underway at the conclusion of the KFC T20 Big Bash League.

It was very much a game for the batsmen with both side's compiling large totals in the four day match, with Tasmania's experience and talent shining through on the final day.

ACT got things rollling piling on a mammoth total of 368 in their first innings with the Tasmanian bowlers struggling on the flat Manukah pitch. In a positive for the Tigers however, Jeremy Smith made a successful return from injury in his first match back for several months taking 3 wickets whilst Nick Kruger picked up 2.

The Tasmanian reply proved a more impressive display than what the home side showed with PKF Tigers opening batsmen Steve Cazzullino and experienced campaigner Mark Cosgrove doing the damage for the visitors. Cazzulino made 78 before he was dismissed whilst Cosgrove fell short of his century on 92 but it wasn't the Comets bowlers who ended Cosgrove's innings but Hobart Hurricanes selectors who gave Cosgrove a late call up for the KFC T20 BBL match against the Renegades.

With Cosgrove on the next flight back to Hobart, his replacement was Tigers all-rounder Luke Butterworth, who too was fresh from BBL duties with the Sydney Thunder and he started where Cosgrove left off making a handy 43. Russell de Groot (58) and Nick Kruger (50) were also showing good signs with the bat guiding Tasmania to 417, giving them a 49 run lead over the Comets.

The batsmen's paradise continued in the second innings with ACT recording another high total and the Tasmanian bowlers struggling to get the much needed breakthrough as the Comets piled on the runs and declared on 4-337.

Needing 289 for victory, Tasmania once again put together a solid team batting effort to reach the required runs in the 55th over on the final day with Alex Doolan leading the way with 67 not out. Steve Cazzullino once again showed his good form at the top of the order making 64 whilst Ashton May made 49 and Butterworth continued his form from the first innings with 43.

The win puts Tasmania into third position on the Futures League points table and Tasmania's next match will be at home against NSW at ANZAC Park in Lindisfarne between February 13th-16th.
